What is Pancake Day?
Pancakes have come to represent Shrove Tuesday, traditionally the day where families would use up all the fattening foods before Lent, which is a period of reflection and fasting for many people across the world.
When is Pancake Day?
Pancake Day this year falls on February 13th, making February 14th both Valentine's Day and Ash Wednesday. Easter Sunday also falls on April Fools Day, so 2018 is the year of combining traditionally religious and secular holidays!
The Albatros, Wells-next-the-sea
"Pannenkoeken", or Dutch pancakes to you and I, can be found on this 119 year old former Dutch cargo ship, permanently moored alongside the Quay; savoury pancakes, sweet pancakes and other traditional Dutch dishes are served from 12-11pm daily.
Christophes Crepes, Norwich
Served from a vintage French van just down from Norwich Market, Christophe's Crepes supplies all your crepe needs, both savoury and sweet. As of this month, they're a daily fixture: 11 - 4:30pm Monday to Friday, 10:30 - 5pm Saturdays and 11:30 - 4pm on Sundays. Plus they cater for events!
The Bridge, Wroxham

Jesters Diner, Lowestoft
As seen on TV and in the media for their infamous "Kidz Breakfast", an eating challenge consisting of 9lbs worth of fry up in one hour, Jesters has been established in the East since 1996. Find three pancake dishes on their breakfast menu; Berry Stack, Bacon and Maple Stack and Nutella. Plus, they're now fully licensed to serve alcohol and you can either eat in or order for takeaway/delivery. Result!
The Thatch & Martello's, Lowestoft
Along with Giardino's Italian Restaurant, both The Thatch and Martello's are some of lowestoft's most revered restaurants. The Thatch is set on Kirkley Cliffs close to Lowestoft's award winning South Beach; Martello's is just up the hill from Giardino's in the historic Sparrow's Nest Gardens, to the North of Lowestoft. Find traditional pancakes with sugar and lemon on the breakfast menus at both cafés.
Darsham Nurseries, Saxmundham
Started in 2007 and a self proclaimed "work in progress", this critically acclaimed plant nursery/housewares shop and café serves breakfast and lunch daily, and dinner on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings, as well as Sunday Brunch! Find Buttermilk pancakes with bacon or yoghurt and berry compote on their breakfast and Sunday Brunch menus.
Waffle On, Clacton-on-Sea
A new business venture for a local optician with a sweet tooth, this dessert cafe opened it's doors in 2017 and the rave reviews haven't stopped. Sample pancakes with loads of options for toppings including all your favourite sweets and chocolates, as well as waffles, freakshakes, sundaes and a savoury lunch menu; they even have vegetarian/vegan and gluten free options!
Little Book Cafe, Halstead
A quaint little cafe situated in a 17th century cottage, The Little Book Cafe is open from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 - 15:00 and 09:00 - 15:00 on a Saturday. Browse, borrow or buy from their collection of books and browse their brunch menu, which features American-style pancakes with either Banana, Honey & Mixed Nuts, Bacon & Maple syrup or Salted Caramel, Dark Chocolate Sauce and Vanilla ice cream.
