If you haven’t yet heard about this book, or haven’t had the chance to pick it up, then your holiday is the perfect opportunity to indulge in this captivating read. It entails a tangle of magic, time travel and romance. The lives of Henry and Clare are entwined in the past, present and future, and the story takes us on their interlaced lives. Henry can travel through time; he arrives in a period naked and disoriented, he quickly must find his bearings, discover which year he has been transported to and continue as though his life is as normal as the peoples who surround him. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

If you’re searching for a book that will raise questions and have you doing some detective work as you turn each page, this read is for you. The chapters alternate between diary entries from Amy, who has gone missing after recently moving to a small town in Missouri and her estranged and increasingly worried husband Nick, who has been placed in the firing line for his partner’s disappearance. The plot keeps you questioning the location of Amy, how she went missing, where she is or whether she is even still alive. The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern

The Night Circus is everything you want in a book. It’s dreamy, enchanting and imaginative. It transports you to another time and to another life. The book provides a fictional insight into the lives of the people and animals in the travelling circus. A writer, teacher and usually solitary character, Tengo meets with a young and mystifying girl to rewrite her novel which once published, goes on to become a bestseller. The book raises questions as to whether there is any truth in the world she has described in her story and whether she has experienced the happenings described first hand. This cult novel describes several unimaginable ways of life, which each have a hugely influential effect on every member of society. 

 

Wild: From Lost to Found on the Pacific Crest Trail by Cheryl Strayed

If you are searching for a holiday read that will provide you with determination, passion and a desire to reach for your dreams and achieve your craziest imaginations, this is it. The story follows the main character, Strayed as she hikes over the nine mountain ranges of the Pacific Crest Trail. While the story does little to describe the incredible surroundings she witnesses, it creates a picture of the inconceivable and admirable emotional challenges an inexperienced hiker, who took on the challenge by herself, must face. From unimaginable blisters, lost hiking shoes, to facing the fear of bears and the darkness.
