1. The Lincolnshire Coast

This is the coastline that includes legendary holiday resorts like Skegness, Cleethorpes and  Sutton on Sea. It’s traditional British seaside fun at its best. Skegness is almost a byword for seaside holidays and it lives up to its reputation with all the fun of the arcades, doughnuts, chips and candyfloss. And of course its pier. A firm favourite still, and it’s over 100 years old. Cleethorpes has a pretty impressive pier too. And  prom. And a great beach. Sutton on Sea is smaller, but really charming. A great place for a family day out.

The Lincolnshire Coast has a beautiful balance about it. All the fun of the fair is there for the taking, but so too is the quiet calm and  natural beauty of the more secluded areas. Head to Donna Nook National Nature Reserve towards the end of the year to see the seals and their pups on the beach.

2. The Lincolnshire Wolds

The fact that the Lincolnshire Wolds is an Area of Outstanding Beauty is enough to give you a clear idea of how lovely a part of Britain it is. It’s stunning countryside, a panorama of sweeping hills and secret valleys. It’s often said that the prettiest place in Lincolnshire Wolds is Hubbard's Hills. Close to Louth these hills were formed by glacial overspill over 40,000 years ago. Today they’re as pretty as a picture.

The thing about The Wolds is that there is a lot to explore and lots of ways to do it. It’s a place where there is so much you can do. You can walk, you can cycle, you can ride a horse. Have picnics. Take the dog. For details of days out, routes to take and places to see go to -

The Wolds is a term used in England to describe a range of hills which consists of open country overlying a base of limestone or chalk.

The name Wold is derived from the Old English wald meaning "forest", (cognate of German Wald, but unrelated to English "wood", which has a different origin).
