Take a balanced view with these five surprising things about the month - and five reasons why it’s a really great time to start thinking about owning your own UK holiday home. September - somehow it’s always a month when you have that feeling that it’s a time of change. A new beginning. You start school in September. You go up to the ‘big school’ in September. You go to University in September. You get emotional at the gates when your kids start school in September and then it stays in your brain. It’s as powerful as January 1st. There’s that unquantifiable but very real feeling that something is about to happen. That now is the time. Your time…

For some people that time is about some unexpected, and in some cases downright silly, September dates. Dates like these -

September 4th was Eat An Extra Dessert Day

You’ve missed it. Sorry. But hey - you could still celebrate it. In your own way. In your own time. We’re not condoning  irresponsible over indulgence. But come on. Once in a while. Once a year? Nobody seems to know who started this event, but don’t let that stop you. And forget that ‘bring two spoons’ thing.

September 13th is Roald Dahl Day

September is the month in which Dahl was born so celebrations tend to stretch out all month and all over the country. All over the world actually. It’s a great time for involving kids. Even if it’s just at the weekend, get them to dress up as characters from the books. Get them reading the books. Read to them.

September 19th is Talk Like a Pirate Day

Maybe this one is one of the silly ones.  Really?  Who knew? ‘Talk Like a Pirate Day’ has been going since 1995. You’re supposed to greet people, not with ‘hello’ but ‘ahoy mateys’. All day. Google it - there’s lots of information including some quite serious stuff (yes - really) about the origins of why we think pirates talk the way they do. And if you  thought we’d get through this without saying ‘Aaaarggghhh’ or ‘Avast ye’ you were wrong. Because we just did it.

September  21st - Autumn begins

Sort of. It’s complicated. And it varies. But be honest, late September, around the 21st, it feels like Autumn is kicking in doesn’t it? The leaves are changing colour. You’re getting that sweater out of the wardrobe and realising that cosy clothes are quite nice really. Layer up. Go for a walk. Why do we never grow out of kicking piles of leaves?

September  22nd is World Car Free Day

It’s now an ‘annual celebration of cities and public life, free from the noise, stress and pollution of cars’. What better time  to consider the importance of exercise as well as the impact of cars on the environment? In fact this one is really quite important all ways round. You may not have known it existed as a September date but think abuot it this way. Once you’re at your own uk holiday home you’ve cancelled a stack of less than green air miles of holiday travel and hassle, and you’re parked up for as long as you want to stay. Get out there and walk.

Now, all of that is all well and good, but doing  special things on special days is something you can only do when you have the time. And the mindset. Which is where having your own holiday home comes in. And September is a great time to give that some real consideration.

September is a time to think about Suffolk

For example. Or Teesside. Or the Essex coast.  Because with your own holiday home you can cut and run to the coast at that time of year when destinations are quieter, when the year is changing. If they’re not at school yet take the children. Or the grandchildren (you will be worshipped by your children) and make it a fun trip. Or go as the two of you and just chill.

September is superb in the Lincolnshire Wolds

Cycling and walking are just the kind of activities that are ideally suited to September, especially in countryside like the Lincolnshire Wolds. There are the  colours of early autumn, the rolling landscape and the lovely views.  And that's not to mention the pubs for quiet lunches and the myriad of places to visit. It’s that mindset thing again. With your own holiday home in a glorious location like Mablethorpe for instance you can find the time to breathe. The time to make the most of the year.

September is a seriously good time to see Essex

The weather is good, the scenery is lovely and the beaches are brilliant. From Clacton on Sea to the county’s quaint byways Essex has so much to see and lots to do. This is the time of year to wander about and take time out. The sort of time to make the most of your own holiday home.

September is jazz in Scarborough, a flower festival  in Harrogate and an all round special time in North Yorkshire

Great days out are the norm in North Yorkshire come September. Things to do, places to see, and another part of the uk that’s so beautiful you’ll just want to savour it. And that’s precisely what you can do when you have a base; your own uk holiday home. For something that’s so much fun it makes a lot of sense.

September is a great time to think about owning your own UK holiday home

Even now, with all that’s changed in life, there is still that feeling September is a good time for new beginnings. There’s a shift in the year. Summer is slowing down and it’s not really necessary (it isn’t - honestly)  to be planning Christmas yet. Break out. Take stock. Think about the future and how best to use your resources. And how best to spend your time. Interest rates hardly signal massive investment opportunities. International travel is looking less than certain but certainly expensive. Old school uk self catering is not looking cheap either. Invest in buying your own uk seaside holiday home and your money is working while you’re playing. Come on. It’s September. Do it.
