And what’s really lovely, is that at the same time as delivering such a superb slice of scenery, it also offers all the fun of the traditional seaside. There are loads of family attractions and things to do in Redcar.

The Redcar area is very much about the Yorkshire Coast. It’s forty five miles of those wonderful contrasts. Fabulous beaches, and fish and chips. History, geology and heritage as well as fun and facilities. You can stand and stare out to sea, but be just minutes from the moors. It might be wise though not to make any claims about which is the best seaside town in Yorkshire. There are a lot of candidates and such suggestions cause a lot of debate.

Also in Saltburn-by-the-Sea is a Tingdene Residential Park with an exciting new development and brand new residential homes soon available to purchase, at Hazelgrove Park. Head to Saltburn-by-the-Sea at the end of April to for the Hazelgrove open days.

Saltburn-by-the-Sea springs to mind. It’s a lovely place and the Saltburn Cliff Lift - one of the world’s oldest funicular railways - is a must see. Saltburn’s Victorian pier and marine parade are full of character. You can take a stroll through the Italian Gardens. It’s British seaside at its best. 

Or, if you want to walk further, it’s worth remembering that Saltburn is on the Cleveland Way National Trail. That’s a 109 mile walk through the North Yorkshire coast. (You don’t have to do it one go!). It will take you to Whitby, with its Abbey and, of course, its legendary literary connections (You do know about Dracula, right?) Whitby is world famous.

Staithes is somewhere definitely worth a visit. If you want all the character of cliff top paths and cobbled streets, Staithes has it all.

At Redcar you’re only a few miles east of Middlesbrough. A town steeped in British history and at the heart of Teeside, Middlesbrough is a thriving hub of culture, dining, events, entertainment and shops.

What’s so great about the area is that you can indulge in a bit of retail therapy when the fancy takes you, or you can strike out for the majesty of the great outdoors. And talking of the great outdoors…

Holidays in North Yorkshire

You have to go to Roseberry Topping. Sometimes called The Yorkshire Matterhorn, this iconic hill is well worth the walk. The views are outstanding. James Cook, the explorer, walked here as a young man. There’s a monument to him, and a museum in nearby Staithes.

Roseberry Topping is 1049 feet (320m) high and  so distinctive that it’s become a symbol of the area. It’s even echoed in the Teeside International Airport logo. Although not officially the highest point in the North York Moors it’s a vital part of this wild and wonderful part of Yorkshire’s Moors. A good start point for information is the National Trust who have lots of facts and data on where to  walk and what to look out for. Visit

The Yorkshire Coast area has never been better provided for when it comes to fine food and drink. Whitby alone boasts the Whitby Brewery and Whitby Gin Distillery.

Any quick trip around the websites will show you the plethora of places to eat in the Redcar area. From traditional fish and chips at Oliver’s to Thai cuisine at Lemon Grass there’s something for everyone. Hotels, pubs and restaurants offering really great for and drink are are an integral part of the the part of Yorkshire.
