When one is looking for a holiday home, one looks for lodges for sale in Norfolk

Forgive the tone of that opening line but it seemed appropriate somehow, as this is an important month in Royal circles.

As we mark Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, celebrating her unprecedented 70 years as a reigning monarch, it feels like a good time to reflect on one of the favourite Royal holiday destinations and how much has changed during her reign.

Lodges for sale in Norfolk make the ideal holiday home

If you need any evidence of how good a place Norfolk is for your holiday home, you only have to look at the Royal Family. They’ve made the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk their favourite holiday retreat for generations, that’s never changed.

Of course, a massive nineteenth century house set in thousands of acres isn’t everybody’s idea of a UK holiday home - it’s not terribly practical, or affordable, for most of us. But having your own lodge at somewhere like Tingdene Waveney River Centre is a very realistic way of having your own holiday lodge in Norfolk.

Waveney River Centre is a world of wonderful contrasts. Lodges here are built to the highest specifications and they are set in an award winning park; and yet this is a really natural, authentic part of Broadland and its boatyards. It’s secluded and unchanging, but it has outstanding facilities.  Plus, it has its own pub, The Waveney Inn, a site that has been a stop for traders and tourists since the late 1800s.

So much of Waveney River Centre’s appeal is in its location. Your holiday lodge here is in the south of the county and beautifully located to explore the Broads and the Waveney Valley. It’s precisely the sort of place where one could enjoy one’s holidays for a long time into the future.

Caldecott Hall Country Park - how’s that for a Norfolk holiday home address?

If acres of Norfolk woodland and exclusive facilities are your thing, you do have options other than simply dreaming of living in a royal residence. A lodge or caravan at Tingdene Caldecott Hall Country Park is a great holiday home and it comes with access to a golf course, leisure club, pool and much more. It’s another wonderful East Anglian location with a mix of everything modern, as well as history and heritage. The list of Royal visits to the Great Yarmouth area stretches back to the very beginning of Her Majesty’s reign.

One other thing about Caldecott Hall Country Park; it’s next door to the world famous Redwings Horse Sanctuary that is well worth a visit. Her Majesty loves horses and you could share her enthusiasm at your woodland Norfolk holiday home.

Look out for caravans for sale at North Denes in Lowestoft

Tingdene North Denes is another great start point if you’re starting to think about owning your own UK holiday home. Close to the beach, as well as within striking distance of lots of attractions and places to visit, North Denes is the UK’s most easterly caravan park. That means you’re close to iconic holiday destinations of Great Yarmouth and Lowestoft, and you can get to Southwold, Aldeburgh and the beautiful Suffolk coast too. Buying a caravan here is a sound financial move and a wonderful way to create a holiday home for you and your family.

The east of East Anglia is a brilliant location for a holiday home. It’s an area steeped in our seaside history and the constancy of our countryside traditions. In fact, on one of her numerous visits to the area Her Majesty once said “Our sense of what it is to be British derives as much from the treasured towns, villages and coastline of East Anglia as it does from the great cities like London or Birmingham.” So, it must be true - because the Queen said so.

Thinking about Suffolk cottages by the sea? Think about Broadlands Park and Marina

Oulton Broad is home to the Lowestoft Museum, opened by the Queen and Prince Phillip during their visit to Lowestoft in 1985. The guest book they signed is still an attraction. Maritime history aside, Oulton Broad is nowadays home to Tingdene Broadlands Park and Marina. Having your holiday home here means you’ll be part of of the Broads landscape, with the magic of its waterways. Plus, you’ll be a neighbour to a variety of Suffolk coastal towns that don’t come much more charming than Southwold. In the unlikely event of you getting tired from wandering around its streets, galleries, shops and lighthouse, you have the legendary Adnams Brewery to explore the ideal refreshment.

As to how much has changed - and how much hasn’t…..

We’ve seen so much change over the seventy years since Queen Elizabeth ll was crowned. Life was beginning again when she came to the throne. The dark days of World War Two and rationing were beginning to fade away. We’ve seen the arrival of the NHS, seen men walk on the moon and watched as the internet changed our lives. Sadly, we’ve also seen unimagined challenges like the pandemic.

We’ve seen the years when greater affluence and a revolution in travel meant that the overseas holiday became, for many, the norm. And now we see another predicament. The future of our planet is in our hands. The more we do now to reduce emissions the greater chance we have of ensuring the future.

There has never been a better time to consider buying your own UK holiday home. It makes financial sense, it makes sense for the planet and it makes sense for you and your family. Because one thing that has not changed in the years since the Coronation, is our love of spending time with family and friends. In fact we’ve recently been reminded of just how important it is.

We wish all of you the happiest of holidays in your own holiday homes. And all of us at Tingdene send our kindest wishes to Her Majesty the Queen on her Platinum Jubilee.
